“My definition of compassionate care means seeing patients as a
'whole' rather than just focusing on their cardiac issues. It involves
patience, empathy and understanding. One has to give patients
opportunity to express their concerns and feelings. It also means
needing to have transparent discussions about the procedures I
may perform to treat their disease and making sure patients have
an active role in decision-making relating to their care.”
